Staging selected lines commits everything in the file

I've used this software for years to stage lines for commit.

With version 3.4.17 everything in the file is secretly committed when staging specific lines. There is no feedback given as the commit window is displaying the selected lines. But in the push history is everything in the file.

This is a major bug! As unintended code is getting committed.

The damage can be severe.
