I am using SourceTree for my project (using bitbucket as the backend), like it and decided to use it at work too (to go with moving from SVN to GIT).

I did all the conversion from SVN to GIT on a locla copy of the repo, and then proceeded to push the resulting "jumbo commit" to the infrastructure provided by IT. Upload speed was in the order of 384Kbps. I left it overnight and it worked out ok (with a little stress )

Today I'm cloning on a different machine, and speeds are in the order of 768Kbps. Better, but still agonizingly slow...

In both cases, if I look at the network activity, it is very regular, as if something was throttling network use. We tried having two machines clones simultaneously, to see if there was a network bottleneck somewhere, but both machines showed the same slow operation when using Source Tree. They also both showed fast operation while using Git Bash.

Looks to us as if SourceTree was throttling traffic...
