Icing on the cake.....

in the left hand pane, under each repository, display a subtree/node (which ever) that shows the submodules for that repository and has a similar display as the parent repository (modified, branch etc). The real bonus would be showing the submodule branch.

Alternatively, show the branch under the submodules section in the right hand pane.
