The automatic refresh features, “Refresh automatically when files change”, and “Check default remotes for updates every X minutes”, are very disruptive. They cause so many problems for me that I always disable them.

These activities should occur silently in the background and not interrupt your work at all—not change your selections, not scroll your views—nothing.
