We should mark our calendars and all return on 04/Dec/2014 to celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the request to sort tags.  Only 2 months away now!

Would be pretty cool to have this.
If project have a lot of tags, still a bit annoying to scroll down to find out which tags were the latest ones.

However, hasn't it been solved yet?

Sorting numerically descending would be ideal (or alternately newest to the top).

Here's to hoping we close this FR out before it gets to 8 years old.

This is such a bizarre restriction - why don't the git config or global git settings have any effect on this?  It'd actually be easier from an implementation standpoint than whatever they've done and would allow users who care to override in a way that makes sense.  No matter how you name your tags, the current approach guarantees that the tags you care about are at the bottom of a potentially huge list.

It's also an issue with M.m.p notation. Let's say I have 1.2.9. This would be listed completely separate from 1.2.10

Having the tags alphabetical can cause user error if you've changed tag conventions over the years. For example, we have tags called v1.2.3 and 1.3.3 that are stored in completely different areas. In case we need to use the tag for rollback, any chance of a mis-click could be very bad. Please let us sort tags, or at the very least list tags by the order they were created, like GitHub does in it's UI.

I would also like to see the newest tags first or setting to order them by descending.

After some years of software development, the amount of tags our company created is quite huge which makes it hard to scroll for finding the last ones. Since we use naming scheme like yyyy-mm-dd, sorting would help a lot to navigate to the newest tags.

This would be such a simple but useful feature...especially considering git has native support to order by version!
