If you change your Keyboard system settings from the default so that the tab function moves the keyboard focus through 'All Controls' instead of 'Text boxes and lists only', pressing space to toggle the checkboxes doesn't work in the new file status view.

This appears to be because Cocoa is already giving the checkbox the focus and toggling it itself (we toggle it usually because the default settings don't do this).
