I would like the editor for commit messages to show the character count for the line I am typing.

Where I work we follow the 50/70 rule for our commit messages. The first line should not exceed 50 characters, all other lines shouldn't exceed 70 characters. Since the commit message editor doesn't show how long my line is I need to resort to writing my commit messages in another editor and then paste it in SourceTree.

It would really speed up my workflow if SourceTree would show the character count for the line in the commit message editor.
