It is a really annoying to remove the mail address from the author field by hand for EACH commit.

When leaving the global (or repo) config entry empty, the commit author states sth like "name <>", with empty brackets at the end, which is kind of unnecessary.

Tried this with hg, but i guess this affects git as well.

      Thanks for your help!

It wasn't possible to use a blank email in the global settings in 1.9.3 (frankly I'm not sure why anyone would want to do that), only the repository settings. This has been allowed in 1.9.4.

Empty angle brackets are no longer displayed when you omit the email. Email can be blank in permanent settings too now.
