Summary
During migration, many customers may not be aware of firewall rules or other network configurations that could prevent the migration assistant from connecting to Atlassian infrastructure. Errors, when this occurs, are also inconsistent and may not appear until later in the migration.
Proposed Suggestion
BCMA could have a precheck to determine if the Server or Data Center instance can reach all the required Atlassian endpoints and present a friendly message if there is an error for a particular endpoint.
Workaround
Often times customers open tickets with Atlassian support which then provide documents like these:
