Issue Summary

Older Loom videos have stopped playing in the web player. Videos are stuck on a loading state with a black screen and never begin playback. The issue affects older/legacy videos specifically, while newer videos may play without issue.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Navigate to an older Loom video (recorded months/years ago)
2. Open the video share page in a browser (e.g., Chrome, Firefox, Safari)
3. Observe the player — the video remains on a black screen with a loading/buffering spinner indefinitely
4. Wait 30+ seconds — playback never initiates; the spinner continues
5. Try basic troubleshooting — refresh the page, try incognito mode, try a different browser → issue persists
6. Download the video as MP4 — the downloaded file plays correctly in a local media player, confirming the video data is intact

Expected Results

The video should load and begin playback within a few seconds, streaming via HLS/Shaka Player as normal.

Actual Results

The video is stuck on a black screen with an infinite loading spinner. Shaka Player fails to decode or load the streaming source for older videos. No playback occurs.

Workaround

Contact Loom Support to change the playback source to MP4
