Summary
Restore the functionality in the Loom Desktop and Browser applications that automatically titles a new recording based on the name/title of the active browser tab or window being recorded.
Problem Statement
Currently, users have to manually rename every video after recording, or they are left with generic titles (e.g., "New Recording - [Date]"). This adds friction to the workflow, especially for users who record multiple quick videos daily for documentation or communication. The previous behavior, which pulled the <title> tag from the active browser tab, provided immediate context to the video without manual intervention.
Suggested Solution
- Automatic Metadata Capture: When a recording starts (specifically for "Screen" or "Window" modes), Loom should capture the title of the active browser tab or application window.
- Default Title: Use this captured title as the default name for the video once it is uploaded.
