User Story
As a paid Loom Business or Enterprise customer recording high-quality content (e.g., using 4K cameras or iPhone Continuity Camera), I want to be able to download my long-duration videos (30+ minutes) in their true, uncompressed high-resolution (1080p/4K) format so that my offline files match the crisp quality of the online player.
Current Limitation
Currently, Loom's media processing pipeline automatically applies aggressive compression settings to any video exceeding 30 minutes in duration to optimize transcode times and storage.
This compresses a 30-minute 1080p video down to a ~44–48 MB file size upon download, resulting in heavily pixelated and blurry camera footage in the downloaded MP4, even though the online player successfully renders at 1080p.
Suggested Solution
- High-Quality Download Option: Provide an option in the UI for paid plan users (Business & Enterprise) to request a "High-Quality / Uncompressed Download" for videos longer than 30 minutes.
- Bypass Compression Limits: Allow the transcoder to bypass the aggressive compression limits for paid tiers when a high-resolution download is requested, preserving the original source bitrate and resolution.
Customer Impact
Paid users who rely on Loom to record professional training courses, webinars, or detailed product walkthroughs are experiencing significant friction when downloading their videos for external hosting or offline archiving. The heavy compression degrades the professional look of their content, leading to customer frustration and potential churn.
