I have business applications build in Jira Software just because my user community require customisable Kanban boards.
Unfortunately, the software engineering specifics remain visible and cannot be switched off or hidden.
This will IMPROVE the general business applicability a lot.

we use kanban board also for our Service Desk project and it's unfortunate that Jira Service Desk doesn't come with a kanban board.

I really need this feature. Otherwise we won't buy. We need boards filtered by components.

The current Board on Jira Core cannot be configured (i.e., configure a filter to the board). We have a project that exceed the 1000 issue limit, so if the Board has at least a configurable filter it will be a perfect to application and solve many problems reported by users on above comments.

Kanban board is a MUST for us too. I advocated strongly for JIRA Core for the business, and there's no Kanban capability? Ridiculous.

I have to +1 Stacey here... It's been a long journey for me to convince my company to use JIRA and I strongly advocated for the product... But decision was made yesterday that without a Kanban board (or something of the sort), we will stop using the product. Hopefully we get some news soon.

It's also a deal breaker for us. I've just convinced my company to use Jira and the fact that JIRA core doesn't have Kanban boards means we are unlikely to keep using the product.

We are testing JIRA Core now and have a potential user base of 2000 users in my company. This missing feature is the only hold-up to deploy it more broadly as a production environment. It would be good if you could provide us an update on what's happening with this? And if no update, is there a workaround with another plugin/product...

here too - we want to buy a 250 user license for Core Server, but just with the boards feature!
It is the most important feature to make this product maximum effective

Please prioritize this feature for the server version, it literally is the #1 feature we are missing. If you want core to be used extensively throughout companies, this is the door that needs to be opened.

This shipped for Jira cloud back in September, didn't it? Six months later and still no sign of it in Jira Core Server?

You can't do some basic items such as custom filters or swim lanes.  The business project boards aren't completely useless but you quickly realize the boards in the software project type in JIRA are far superior.

The JIRA Core boards are practically useless and I tend to agree with others that they are intentionally not bringing this functionality to core.

John Bjerke - In our local environment all users are JIRA Software users so we do not run into that issue.  I wasn't aware that JIRA Core users were prevented from even viewing boards in JIRA with JIRA Software installed.  If anything that just highlights the need to have the base feature released on server for JIRA Core.

Casey Graves - How would one go about making this work? I've tried without any luck. Core users are not able to view the board.

In the mean time, while I've been waiting for this to come to server, I created a stand alone Kanban board through JIRA Software and placed a project shortcut link to the board.  Not ideal but it gets me to where I wanted to go in a not as integrated looking fashion.

I think Gerardo has a point.

And I think he is right and we can fill this vacuum and speculate about their motivations.

My guess - I think they are deliberately withholding this development because they spent $425 million buying Trello... who make Boards for corporates... and they will never bring boards to Core.

I reckon we are trapped and this won't be happening.

i've just tested it in my JIRA Server Core installation. Cannot find any Board. Also, i have browsed (again) the linked issues. Could not find any salvation  there. Checked the release notes of JiRa Core Server, too. If Kanban Boards are there, i would thankfully appreciate you sharing a link showing me where to find it.

Anyone notice there are links to other issues - "has derivative of", "is duplicated by" (which aren't actually related, tagged as such in error IMO)? Maybe that's part of reason this has had no attention? If such is the case maybe we need to open a fresh issue..

does anybody of Atlassian notice this? Open since Octobere 2015... anyway, i will not suggest using core in my company like this. Best solution is using JIRA software, i guess. But why would there be JiRa Core then anyway?

Can someone from Atlassian comment on if this feature will be added to the server version. If it is in cloud, is it just time before it is in server - or is this being excluded from server for a reason?

frustrating having new staff working through the online tutorials that include boards but then when it comes to implementing in our core server version they are not there!

Boards is listed as the top feature of core. It does not denote the availability of this feature in cloud vs. server though. We are really looking forward to this in server.

I can't understand why this has status "Open" if it is in production on cloud already. Do you have another ticket somewhere that is tracking the real status?

One hint in general. For us (the Atlassian Experts and your partner) it's always difficult to argue why features the customers can see and use in the cloud are not available on server. Please keep the gap between these small. It makes life easier.

Hi all, as mentioned by some above, Board is now available on JIRA Core cloud. The Labs label has now been taken off, meaning Board is here to stay . Also, it is now made available to all 'old' Business projects, not just the newly created ones (in reference to abrown9's comment above).

And as such, since Board is just newly taken out of Labs on Cloud, we are still analyzing usage and monitoring performance before it can be rolled out to server which as you know has a different release cadence to Cloud. Thank you for your patience and feedback.

I wish it had swimlanes! So helpful when you have a larger project and want to organize it.
And show lables perhaps within the card preview?

The normal Kanban boards in the Software edition allow you to click on a card and the details show up on the right. Any chance that is going to be added to this, or perhaps a pop-up within the screen with the details without having to go to another entire screen and back up? I have teams in trello who love this - your new Board UI would come close to convincing them to migrate to Jira if it had this quick view of the card details.

The new UI work you are doing in this board is nice. Any idea when it will come to Jira Agile as well?

I really would like to have this functionality in my Jira projects. I've been trying to order by many kind of different forms without success. This feature will help me a lot.

It will remain a cut-down version too - the whole point of having JIRA Software separate is that it adds a vast swathe of functionality. Adding most of that back into Core to provide the "complete" boards would make it pretty pointless having two products and they might as well just sell Software at the increased price.

Is the cloud lab functionality also available in the self hosted version?

the cloud lab board has so many pitfalls, why not add the complete one?

the kanban board is a must for project management.

I played around with the new Boards. You have to create a new business project to use it.
You can tell if it enabled by going to Administration->Applications->Jira Core Labs

For now it won't show up on old business projects. So you have to create a new project to test it out.
Currently the functionality is pretty basic. The boards show all the issues in a particular column and old finished issues show up for two weeks before they disappear.

Hopefully they will start adding new features to the board.

Have a look at Cloud JIRA - the labs function in there now lets you enable business "Boards" for JIRA Core. No Software needed.

"Labs" does mean it's a test, and may not make it into the core. In this case, we're pretty sure it's going to go into it.
