As a Kanban rapid board user, I would like to have the same approach offered by Scrum rapid board - plan view.
Basically, it would be great to be presnted with the same view as plan for scrum (epics on left, backlog center and detail on left) but without sprint/create sprint and so on, maybe replaced with a facility to move to "in progress" status topmost backlog issues as we can do when we create a sprint in scrum mode.

+ 1 for the epics. I was so happy, when JIRA 7.4 announced the planning view in Kanban Boards. I wanted to get rid of the sprints in Scrum Boards, that we don't need. But now I am missing the epics and versions.

I think that the planning board is a plus. Otherwise, I need the ability to create versions and epics. Especially, versions are super useful for Kanban.

Why hasn't this been implemented yet? This has been open for over a year...

+1 To be able to filter the cards on the Kanban board by epic would be extremely helpful. If the backlog is long then there is no way to get a view of all cases in the backlog that are in one epic.

+ 1 epics are currently useless in kanban boards and sprints don't work for my team

This feature is greatly needed, otherwise linking items to Epics are useless. We need to be able to quickly filter through epics. I've used Agile before and it makes no sense why you can't just disable the sprint functionality and provide everything else. Seems like it would be easily implementable. Without this, planning is essentially not really possible for large projects. Please add this.
