I received this feature request today:

It would be nice to have some "start working" and "stop working" buttons in the planning board that would automate filling in the form for the "time spend" field.

      Cheers,

      Ximon

            Hi Ximon,

Yes actually in SCRUM you dont enter any time spent you only enter the remaining time.
And if you go more hardcore you dont have any time tracking but you just rely on story points.

            See: http://jira.atlassian.com/browse/JRA-13733
            Good comments in it.

            Cheers,

I've never heard that before regarding Scrum. While I agree with the ideal picture you paint I'm certain our many scrum teams don't and won't work that way, and as I'm sure you'll agree the ideal might be for teams to put effort into tracking time but it is a huge uphill struggle that simply goes against the nature of many developers. As such I think you're answer here might be good in theory, but less so in reality.

That is going against the SCRUM basics
You should reestimate your tasks at the end of every work session
This will might push people to not do it.
