GH will not upgrade if the Epic Status custom field's configurations have been changed

From a Support issue:

NullPointerException caused in CustomFieldServiceImpl - we can add some defensive code to prevent GH from failing to load entirely if this happens again.

We don't have the customer's data to determine the exact cause.
