    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

      Problem Definition

Parent issue without estimate is not showing sub-task's estimate in the rapid board plan mode.
Currently, it's difficult to have the real total estimates for a sprint or somehow will cause confusion for users to plan ahead for next sprint.

      Steps to reproduce

      1. Create a Software Project.
      2. Create an issue.
      3. Create a sub-task from the issue, set original estimate to 3w.
      4. Observe the parent issue, the Time Tracking is showing 3w as original estimate and remaining if the option to include sub-tasks is selected.
      5. Create a board for this project.
      6. Configure the board to estimate the issues in the Backlog using Original Time Estimate and Track time against issues using JIRA's Remaining Estimate and Time Spent fields
      7. Go back to the board, choose to show detail view
      8. Click on the parent issue

      Expected result

The original estimate should show the total estimate for both the parent and sub task.

      Actual result

The original estimate is showing unestimated.

      Suggestion

Parent issue without estimate should include its sub-task's estimates in rapid board plan mode since the sub-tasks are not shown in the issue details.

There's some update for this issue?
This is a kind of thing which is surreal do not be fixed yet. I saw requests since 2012. Please go, JIRA! Fix this issue and make a post on the blog explain that for the users.

            When will this be fixed?

I experienced this issue until now. I just hope Atlassian will fix this. Should this be move to Issue/Bug instead of just a "Suggestion"?

Not sure if it helps you guys, but we've just released the first version of our hierarchical view/editor (Epics/Stories/Sub-tasks) plugin for JIRA Agile, and it can make your Story estimations equals to the sum of sub-task estimations automatically. Also, it calculates the Epic "estimations" from Story estimations.

You can try it here http://demo.plangle.io (just select a board and click on the "Plangle" button next to the Plan/Work/Report trio).
And of course you can download it from the Marketplace https://marketplace.atlassian.com/plugins/com.moresimp.plangle.

We are in the early stages of the development with a bunch of features in the queue and are open to any suggestions, just let us know how we can help your processes and we'll include it in the upcoming releases.

            We are experiencing this problem.
Our Master issue ***-80 does not have an estimation of its own, but does have an estimation when you include the subtasks.
When we include this master issue in the next sprint, we do not see the estimation sum for all of its child issues.
They are not shown at all.

We reported this issue and would like to see it resolved as soon as possible.

            Thank you for your time.
