added a comment - We cannot add another column for blocked issues due to the limited space on our boards. Also, blocked is not really a column for us since an issue can be blocked in various statuses. We already use Swimlanes for stories to distinguish between sub-tasks.
The option to have an indicator (like we had in former times) is the preferred solution along all of our users.

As it has been mentioned by Andre, the Flagging feature introduced in JIRA Agile some time ago allows you to visualise issues which are marked as impediments on the new Boards.
