Problem Definition

While Jira Data Center does support ability to add and remove nodes from it's cluster easily without downtime, currently Jira Data Center doesn't natively support immediate or automatic provisioning of new nodes to respond to increased load.

• We don't actually recommend for AWS users to use the auto scaling feature available in that platform for Jira Data Center due to the amount of time it actually takes to provision a node.
• Also sticky sessions may require that existing sessions don't get immediately distributed to new nodes to balance load, even if we are able to instantly provision the nodes.

This is a limitation for enterprise Data Center users.

Suggested Solution

Extend data center support for instant scalability, including ability to manage sessions across multiple nodes to fully take advantage of instant scalability when new nodes are added.
