Auto populate fields in new backlog issue according to current filter

XMLWordPrintable

    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

When creating issues in the backlog it is convenient to directly type the names at the bottom of the list but fields still need to populated in the side bar or popup dialog.

A simple example of this is having to assign versions/epics to large lists of issues by dragging them onto the filter name. A more complex example is assigning newly created issues to a component or adding labels via the sidebar.

It would greatly improve the workflow if new issues created were assigned any values in the current filter. This would include epic/version selection but also any other suitable field such as component.

A typical use case would be where several users are working on the same project but want to assign issues to different components that they are working on directly. It seems wasteful and error prone to require them to assign the component for every issue they create when it will always be required.

I acknowledge that this could partially be achieved by setting the field using a post function but it would not be nearly as flexible and is not as accessible to the average user.
