Summary

Receiver will not receive any email notification after enable the "-Datlassian.notifications.disabled=true" flag mentioned in this document, but an mail will still be generated and placed in the mail queue. In large instance, mail queue and heap could get filled up, could lead to Jira not responding.

Also, notifications generated by a ScriptRunner script are still sent even with the JVM flags in place.

Improvement

Add note to documentation explaining that notifications still be triggered and are added to mail queue but will not be sent.

Workaround

To remove outgoing SMTP server to prevent them from being added to the queue.
