      Dear Jira users,

We would like to inform you that we are closing this issue thanks to the improvements done in the way how Jira is sending the analytic events from the browser to the server.

The logic for collecting the analytic events will no longer disrupt the user actions. Any errors resulting from the web storage operations will be logged to the browser's console with additional information.

If such errors are detected in the console, please contact our support team for further analysis.

The bug fix will be also backported to the upcoming Jira LTS version releases - 8.20.19 & 9.4.4.

      Kind Regards

      Anna Scisłowska

    Description

      Description

There's a large javascript error report displayed to a user, related to a QuotaExceededError. This usually happens after opening a board.

      Steps to reproduce

The bug occurs when usage data collection mechanism (details) exceeds browser's local storage quota. Reproducing it through regular Jira usage is time-consuming and non-deterministic. Instead, one may try triggering it through storing a preposterously large text (the actual limit depends on a browser) to local storage via a developer console.

      Expected behaviour

Data collection mechanism exceeding browser's local storage quota does not disrupt user's actions.

      Actual behaviour

      An error pops up.

      Details

Local storage quota varies depending on a browser and its version and is calculated per origin (protocol, hostname and port number). The actual sizes can be found directly via browser or in its documentation.

Exception: Uncaught QuotaExceededError: Failed to execute 'setItem' on 'Storage': Setting the value of 'atlassian-analytics.jira.lock' exceeded the quota.

      • Problem is reproducible in both Firefox and Chrome.

      Workaround

Functionality in JIRA and Confluence fail due to Exceeding Chrome Quota
