Description
Problem Definition
Issue creators are able to attach files of any type to an issue, which can complicate things for issue screeners/processors in that they might not have the correct software to read them or will lose valuable time in manually downloading attachments for external viewing. Additionally, administrators may want to restrict certain file types (e.g., executables) for security reasons.
Suggested Solution
Implement a file type filter on a global or project level to restrict attachments to only desired file types.
Why this is important
Issue screeners may not have the software necessary to view attached files, which can cause delays in ticket processing. Additionally, some file types must be downloaded to view, which can also contribute to delay. On the security front, attached executables may lead to security issues when downloaded and run.
Workaround
There are third-party add-ons that accomplish this task (e.g., Attachment Checker).
