We would like to be able to include a portion of a commit hash (at least 7 leading chars) in a comment in Jira OnDemand and have it automatically link to our Bitbucket installation to that commit.

We currently have Bitbucket linking back to Jira when we include issue identifiers in the commit message, this request is sort of for the reverse.
