Steps to replicate:
Plan a story in a sprint and start the sprint
Convert the story to an Epic.

You will notice the epic ticket is showing up as a workable item in the Work Board.

Because it is no longer a story, it should no longer appear in the Work Board.

Workaround:
Manually edit the Sprint field of the issue to remove it from the sprint.
