Hours estimated on sub-tasks are not accounted for in the planning board's Original Estimate fields

Scenario: Our project utilizes epics. which are broken into features. Those features are further broken into sub-tasks. We estimate only on the sub-tasks when sub-tasks exist as they are the only items granular enough to be worth of estimations.

However, estimates made on sub-tasks are not accounted for in the JIRA Agile Planning board. This means that we are unable to see how much time we have allocated to any given sprint.

This is easily reproducible. Create 1 Epic with 1 Feature with 1 Sub-Task and provide an estimate on the sub-task. Then view the Epic/Feature on JIRA Agile's Planning Board.

The details breakdown in the Epic and Sprint Reports suffer from the same problem. The issues list at the bottom does not tally a sub-tasks' estimated hours into the parent task.

[JSWSERVER-11276] Hours estimated on sub-tasks are not accounted for in the planning board's Original Estimate fields

I am uncertain how this is "not a bug". I understand that from a purely technical standpoint the software may be working as designed and so there isn't a technical problem with the code but this seems like a design bug as hours from sub-tasks are not tallied in JIRA Agile correctly. It is really misleading to not include those hours. In any case, the related issue GHS-9167 seems to cover this issue though it mentions stories, not epics. I will continue my comments there.
