Currently, if the user still using the default avatar on the creation, JIRA Agile Work board will use the username Initials as the avatar.

But, if user change the avatar even though it is from JIRA itself, it will use that avatar instead in the Work View. It will be the same when the user tries to change back the avatar to the default one.

Therefore, it would be useful if there is an option in the board configuraiton whether the user would like to use the avatar or the Initials.

Mona, it looks like the images in Jira are 24x24.

But I think you can just upload the generated image (256x256) and Jira will scale it automatically .

            Hope that's helpful...

We would love to see the initialied avatars in Service Desk, a way to set them to this version. Otherwise it has led to mix-ups between multiple participants.

Aleem - thanks for the code above. what would recommend for font size and width& height? In the code above the sizes are generating large image. Does anyone know what size Jira uses for its Initials?

Thought I'd share the workaround our team is using, until this gets fixed.

This page generates a very nice avatar with your initials. Easy to customize the colors, or anything else needed. Just right-click on the generated image to save it, and upload to your JIRA profile.

I can't take any credit for it, but props to Lee Crossley!

Add me to this one as well. This would be very useful as the initial makes it easy for others to find my stories (since I am the only one on my team with my first initial).  I thought I could go back after choosing one, but I can't find any way to do it.

I accidentally set an avatar and am now using the 'mugshot' avatar, unlike all other members of my team using the letter avatar. It makes determining assignees of issues at a glance more difficult. Not much of course, but enough for other team members to have raised the issue with me. If not a whole feature, then can we at least be told what bit of JIRA's database to poke to unassign the avatar manually?

I've added a screenshot so hopefully it's more clear why it's annoying.

Agreed. Allow an option to change it back to the initial.

This would definitely benefit me and the team. This seems an oversight and incredibly simple to implement. Would love to see it addressed.

I second this request. Initials are much easier to sort with the eye than avatars.

This request is to enable the option to choose the default Jira Agile avatar (first initial) in the avatar selection dialog.
