Problem Statement
Currently, Focus Areas (from Atlassian Focus) are only visible as a column field within Jira Plans. There is no way for users to see which Focus Area a Jira work item (Epic or above) is linked to directly from the issue view.
This creates a disconnect between strategic context and execution, as team members viewing individual Jira issues have no visibility into the strategic Focus Area their work is contributing to, without having to navigate away to either Jira Plans or the Focus application.
Expected Behavior
The Focus Area linked to a Jira work item (Epic and above) should be displayed directly on the issue view panel, similar to how other Atlassian app fields such as Goals are surfaced on the issue view.
Current Behavior
Focus Area is only visible:
• As a column in Jira Plans timeline (Premium/Enterprise only)
• Within the Atlassian Focus application, under the Work tab of the relevant focus area
It is not visible on the individual Jira issue view.
Why This Matters
• Improves strategic alignment visibility for team members working on day-to-day tasks
• Reduces context-switching between Focus, Jira Plans, and the Jira issue view
• Allows Jira users without access to Jira Plans or Focus to still understand how their work maps to organizational priorities
