I'm sure this is already an open issue but I couldn't find it. My team often "cancels" issues  for various reasons and we were able to do this with the old project type. Currently, next-gen only supports "done" which is not descriptive enough for issues we really cancel. It means we have to choose the lesser of two evils... either confuse our stakeholders (they see "done" but the work was never actually completed) or we lose the history (when we delete the issue).
