Roadmaps are now out of Beta and will be enabled by default for all new Classic type projects 
Once again, thank you for all of your comments and feedback.
In the existing Classic projects you can enable the feature for your board by following the instructions here: https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirasoftwarecloud/enable-and-disable-the-roadmap-1004952906.html
As always, we’re keen to hear your feedback, so please send it in via the "Give Feedback" button in the product.
For those of you who want more from the feature, please stay tuned. Our teams are continuing to investigate and build improvements for both Roadmaps and Advanced Roadmaps based on your feedback.

[JSWCLOUD-17214] Enable Roadmap for "classic" project
How many comments/votes/watchers does this issue need to even solicit a response from Atlassian?

Next-gen projects have the potential to fracture your organisation, or form megaprojects with thousands of users. It can form barriers making working cross projects impossible and lead to customizations that will quickly make life hard for everyone. This is the same issue many organizations face when they have a loose policy for customizations, but with next-gen projects, you will lose any possibility to control the way each and every project will define their work processes. That is why this feature is needed in Classic Project too. Right now to plot a roadmap into confluence it impossible even though you have the roadmap in the portfolio for Jira.
This would be a massively helpful feature for us at our company! +1!

I am tired of of receiving so many emails, I regret having created this request.
Especially knowing that it will probably never be taken in account... 
It would be great if we could get more than just Epic Roadmap for Classic Project...this roadmap would be super useful if it could display other issue types as well 
I have a fantastic new feature request:
Do not send me a notification e-mail whenever a comment is posted with the only contents being "+1". Now, who can I talk to about this much needed feature!? Oh yeah, I can just click Create, so I did:

Please, inspire people to read the following earlier comment (from Esther Strom [ACP-JA]):
Could everyone stop with the +1 comments? Atlassian has indicated multiple times that they base their backlog on votes, so if you don't have anything constructive to add, just vote for the issue up at the top. All you're doing with the comments is spamming everyone who may be watching the issue.
If someone could add this into the description so many of us would be grateful.

Jira, you are probably hesistant due to the revenue stream received from 3rd party plugins for roadmaps... but please give your customers what they want! Practice what you preach

+1. Roadmap is the most useful tool for communication between product manager and stakeholders, so it's highly important to have it in Jira
