Atlassian status as of July 2022

Hi all, this suggestion has some great comments on here but the original intention of this ticket seems to have evolved over time and there are a few themes going on. It's become difficult to discern what people really want so I'm going to try do a little roundup of the themes, close this ticket, and ask that we create separate suggestions if there is a specific behaviour that you need that is not being addressed.
For example, to ensure the issue view doesn't open when you select a card you can use the cmd/ctrl key. You may need to deselect an issue using the same mechanism if you want to highlight one single issue using this approach.
There is a theme on here to be able to disable the detail view completely as a setting. This is not on our long term roadmap. If this is something you need, please do open another suggestion and we can monitor the interest over time.
There is a theme about opening issues in a new tab. At Atlassian, we believe that in most scenarios, opening a link in the same tab by default is the right choice – because you, as a user, can still open links in a new tab easily (either by using cmd/ctrl + click or right-click + ‘open in a new tab’, or by using the Copy Link option in the card menu if on the backlog or board). That said, you’ll come across a handful of experiences in our products where you’ll find ‘open in a new tab’ to be the default. These exceptions have been made deliberately, often based on great customer feedback and in some scenarios where that behavior makes more sense. If there is an experience where you see a need to open a link by default in a new tab, please add a new suggestion for this and we can monitor the interest over time.
      Thanks,

Updated summary - was "Add "Disable Detail View" option to Agile Board User Preferences"

As a developer, I would like to NOT have the detail view pop-up when selecting a card on an Agile board so that I don't loose screen real-estate by showing details I don't want to see, because I typically open the issue in a new browser tab to see all of the details and/or make edits anyway.

As a SCRUM Master, I would like the detail view to display so that I don't have to continuously open new tabs to view each issue when discussing issues as a team in the daily standup.

As can be seen, the role of the user plays a significant part in how this feature is typically used. The proposed "solution" is to make the display of the detail a USER PREFERENCE that can be enabled or disabled per board (either Kanban or Scrum)

Similar to GHS-10182 - however, that request wanted to make it an ADMIN function to disable the detail view per board, which does not fit with a sub-set of users.
