People seem to be somewhat confused about JIRA's terminology for various issue types. They are:
1) Bug
2) Improvement
3) Task
4) New Feature
My immediate understanding/translation of these terms are (in more traditional jargon):
1) Bug Report
2) Patch
3) Task
4) Feature Request
When I looked at the
for New Issue I realised my interpretation was "wrong". Then I realised that there is no JIRA equivalent for "patch", i.e. code contributions/fixes from strangers.
Personally I don't care how they are called, but it becomes a problem when people raising new issues constantly interpret the current terms differently. I have applied several patches that were logged as "New Feature". -And feature requests are often logged as "Improvement".
Some people have an "Improvement", others want one. Likewise, some people have a "New Feature", others want one. I think you get my point.
Most people won't bother to even look at the
to figure out what the different issue types mean. Would you consider changing the terms and possibly add a default issue type for "patch"?
