Happens on my JIRA 3.4.3 on Tomcat 5, and also happens on your JIRA installation.

This is caused by a limitation in the wiki markup language / renderer described at CONF-2494 and cannot be fixed without breaking backwards compatibility.
Workaround
Insert the html escape sequence for the backslash character as:
\
The following markup doesn't work as expected:
d:\jira\\_version_\atlassian-jira-version.jar
I would have expected the pair of backslashes to produce a single backslash and the first "version" to be italicised.
Also double backslash denotes a 'line break'
