We'd like to be able to define additional states for versions... right now they are hardcoded Unreleased, Released, and Closed.
In our org we additionally have "Gathering", "Frozen", and "Certification" states as a version goes through its lifecycle.
Just as there are Issue States we can see the utility of Version States - also the ability to assign icons per state just as for Issue States.

To be really generic, it would also be great to have a workflow scheme for versioning. But that's just crazy talk.
