Issue Summary
When users temporarily switch a Jira dashboard layout to a single column (e.g., for presentation or viewing on smaller screens) and subsequently switch back to a multi-column layout (e.g., 2 or 3 columns), Jira places all existing gadgets into the first column, leaving the other columns empty.
Users must manually drag and drop every gadget back into their desired columns. It would improve the user experience if Jira could either:
- Remember previous gadget positions before collapsing, or
- Provide an option/setting to automatically redistribute gadgets across the available columns upon expanding the layout.
Steps to Reproduce
- Create a dashboard with multiple gadgets distributed across 2 or 3 columns.
- Change the dashboard layout to a 1-column layout. (All gadgets collapse into the single column as expected).
- Change the dashboard layout back to a 2-column (or 3-column) layout.
Expected Results
Jira restores the gadgets to their prior multi-column layout or offers an automatic rebalancing of gadgets across the columns.
Actual Results
All gadgets remain stacked in the first column; the newly added columns are left completely empty.
Workaround
Re-distribute the gadgets after switching back to a multi-column layout, the user can simply drag and drop the desired gadgets from the first column into the newly created column.
