Issue Summary
An incomplete user information is announced by the screen reader.
Steps to Reproduce
- Open Jira DC instance.
- Navigate to the header section, activate the "Issues" control, and open any issue.
- Navigate to the "Add comment" control and activate it.
- Using a screen reader, navigate to the "Comment" field and type "AT" symbol.
- Using the "Down Arrow" key, navigate through the list of names.
- Observe that only the user’s name is announced, but the complete user information is not.
Screen Recording
Mention Announcement Screen Recording.mp4![]()
Actual Results
When screen reader users navigate to the "Comment" field and type the "@" symbol to trigger the "Mention" dropdown, incomplete information about the users is announced. The screen reader only announces the provided username (e.g., "Chirag2025") instead of the complete user information, such as the "display name", "email address", and "username", which are visible to sighted users.
As a result, screen reader users are unable to access the full information.
Expected Results
Ensure that complete user information is conveyed to screen reader users.
In this case, make sure to add the "Display Name" and "Email Address" information to the accessible name list so screen reader users can access this information and differentiate between users, rather than relying solely on the provided usernames.
For example, specify the information in the accessible name list as "Chirag Goyal chirag.goyal@test.com", "John Smith john.smith@test.com", etc. This will help screen reader users access the complete information.
Workaround
Currently there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available
