In larger environments the application role groups such as jira-users, jira-software-uers, jira-servicedesk-users, etc, may contain tens of thousands of users.
If one of these groups is added to a notification scheme it can result in a large amount of spam for an organization.
Ideally Jira would display a warning message if someone tries to add one of these groups to a notification scheme or even prevent/hide these groups from being added to notification schemes
Workaround
The following JavaScript can be added to Jira's announcmeent banner which will display a warning when modifying a notification scheme:
<script type="text/javascript"> function ready(fn) { if (document.readyState !== 'loading') { fn(); } else { document.addEventListener('DOMContentLoaded', fn); } } if (window.location.href.indexOf('AddNotification!default.jspa') > 0) { ready(() => { const mainSection = document.querySelector('#main'); if (mainSection) { // Warning message const warning = '<strong>Do not share with jira-users!</strong>' const heading1 = document.createElement('h1'); heading1.innerHTML = warning.trim(); mainSection.prepend(heading1); } }) } </script>
