Issue Summary
Currently, HashiCorp Vaults are a supported secure vault in Jira, however, it can only manage the JDBC credential used to allow Jira to access the database.
Customers would like to improve this functionality and be able to use secure vaults, such as but not limited to HashiCorp Vaults, to manage credentials used by
- Jira to access a user directory
- Jira to access mail servers (incoming and outgoing)
- Jira to access functionality used by plugins
Steps to Reproduce
- Setup a HashiCorp Vault as per: Configuring Jira with HashiCorp Vault
- Try to use the vault to manage a user directory, mail server, or other place integration credentials are used.
Expected Results
Jira can use the vault to manage credentials
Actual Results
The action is not currently supported
Workaround
Setup credentials for user directories, plugins, etc as indicated by the appropriate documentation and only use the Credential Vault to manage the JDBC password
