Having a open square bracket in the description with Wiki Style Renderer can cause issue detail view failing to load

Issue Summary

The loading of the issue detail view slows down and might even fail completely due to timeout with the following conditions:

• Description field is using the *Wiki Style Renderer * (as is default)
• There is a long description for the issue, with several formatting aka use of code/noformat/panel/heading etc.
• There is a character sequence somewhere in the description like

  [^

• There is NO closing square bracket matching the opening bracket
• other impacting factors seem to be
  • several application links for the instance
  • third party applications adding to the load time

This is reproducible on Data Center: (yes)

NOTE

We were unable to reproduce this issue in-house. If you come across this problem and have noticed any patterns or factors, please share these either directly on this bug ticket or open a support ticket with us referencing this bug ticket.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Have an instance with several application links
2. Have several third-party apps installed, configured, and enabled
3. create a ticket with a description following the above conditions

Expected Results

Issue detail view loads normally

Actual Results

Issue Detail view is slow to load.

Issue with open square bracket and Wiki Style Renderer load time:
Total Requests : 126
Longest total response time : 798 ms
Longest interval between requests : 2m 26s
Time from first request to last request: 2m 39s

Issue with open square bracket and Default Text Renderer load time:
Total Requests : 114
Longest total response time : 774 ms
Longest interval between requests : 2s
Time from first request to last request: 13s

Workaround

• Temporarily change to the Default Text Renderer for the description field as outlined in Configuring renderers and remove the offending character sequence from the description.
