Description
Issue Summary
There is no mechanism to remap the character key shortcuts across the webpages.
Steps to Reproduce
- Navigate to any of the webpages of the Jira application.
- Turn on the screen reader.
- Trigger any of the character key shortcuts.
- Observe that these shortcuts do not work in the brows mode.
- Observe that there is no mechanism to remap these shortcuts.
Actual Results
There are single character key shortcuts that are associated with functionalities across the Jira application. When screen reader users try to use any of the character key shortcuts, they do not work. This is because single characters already have different elements associated with them for quick navigation, such as "G" for graphics, "H" for headings, and so on. There is no way to remap these shortcuts. As a result, screen readers will not be benefitted from these shortcuts.
Expected Results
The use of single character key shortcuts should be avoided since these generally do not work with most of the screen readers, such as JAWS or NVDA. Where character shortcuts are provided, a modifier key should be supplied instead. In this scenario, make sure that a required modifier key, such as Ctrl or Alt is provided along with the characters. If this is not possible then make sure that there is a mechanism to remap the character key shortcuts. As well, make sure that the shortcuts are only activatable when the specific component has keyboard focus.
