Under a project you can select the "Search in project" area on the left side of the screen and type in a defect ID such as ESC-644.  When you perform the search what is executed is "project="ESC" AND text~"esc-644".  This dialog should be renamed to be "Search for text in project" to show what the functionality really does.  The search won't find the defect so it is confusing to users.
