Problem definition
There are two importers in Jira:
- Importer available to all users: go to Issues > Import issues from CSV (limited possibilities)
- Importer available to administrators: go to Jira settings > System > External System Import (full possibilities)
Currently, there is no documentation that explain the first option (Import issues from CSV) and differences between limited and full version of Importer.
On top of that, the limited importer available to users has restrictions on many system fields that cannot be mapped during the import, and with the lack of the proper documentation, it is difficult for users to know which fields they can or cannot map.
Suggested resolution
Write a clear documentation on:
- "Import issues from CSV" importer (the documentation already exists for External System Import
- Explain differences and limitation of "Import issues from CSV" importer, as opposed to "External System Import", when it comes to available fields that can be mapped.
