Description
Issue Summary
When importing Issues into a Project via CSV or JSON, if there is a trailing or leading white space, Jira will create a new entry for that element rather than merging with existing elements.
Steps to Reproduce
- Export Issues in a Project in CSV.
- Add a whitespace before or after a value.
- Import the Issues into Jira.
In the particular case that spurred this Suggestion, Issues were imported that had a whitespace preceding the Version. Jira now shows two versions that have the same version number. However, when rendering the versions on the page, the whitespace is disregarded by Java, and so the two identically-displayed versions are confusing to end users (they don't know why there are two identical versions displayed and cannot know which one to choose). Different issues will be displayed under the two identical versions.
Expected Results
Jira will disregard the extra whitespace and merge or map the values to existing values.
Actual Results
Jira creates a separate entry for the value instead of merging the value into existing fields.
Workaround
Currently there is no known workaround for this behavior. A workaround will be added here when available
