      Problem Definition

When attaching HEIC file into Jira, it will be attached without Thumbnails. When clicking on the file, it will download the file rather than show a preview. There are also cases where clicking the file would prompt the preview window displaying an error message.

      Suggested Solution

Allow Jira to support HEIC file format attachment so that it will be treated just like other image formats (e.g.: PNG, JPG)

Alternatively, Jira could also automatically convert the attached HEIC file into the supported format.

      Workaround

Manually convert the HEIC format to the supported format before attaching

I would agree, preview is nice, but an attachment woudl work.  I am just going to assume this is why I get a GUID with nothing more.  I have been coaching my users not send attachments, but that will never stop them from trying.

While HEIF/HEIC preview would be preferable. But instead it could treat it like any other attachment type it can't render and download it instead so it can be viewed with local apps. The behavior of trying to render the preview and failing is worse than how it handles most other unknown attachement types. And doing that may be simpler as a first step.
