Supported platforms documentation update request: Edge browser stable releases

XMLWordPrintable

    • We collect Jira feedback from various sources, and we evaluate what we've collected when planning our product roadmap. To understand how this piece of feedback will be reviewed, see our Implementation of New Features Policy.

      Issue Summary

Under the supported browser section in https://confluence.atlassian.com/adminjiraserver/supported-platforms-938846830.html

      Browsers

      Desktop browsers:

       Chrome (latest stable version)

       Microsoft Edge

       Mozilla Firefox (latest stable version)

Safari on Mac OS X only (latest stable version)

All the browsers here note (latest stable version), except for Edge. That is likely because Edge was still in the preview version, but that has just changed this week. Details in https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2020/01/15/new-year-new-browser-the-new-microsoft-edge-is-out-of-preview-and-now-available-for-download/

      Suggested solution

Since Edge is now out of preview, we should likely change this to have it fall in line with the other browsers. Or perhaps change all browsers to simply note that we only support the latest stable versions of each.

      Why this is important

Reading the supported platforms today makes it appear as if all versions of Edge ever created would be supported within Jira Server. And that seems misleading to end users. We should be more explicit about managing that customer expectation here.
