Problem Definition
Currently, the way Jira is designed would treat the Estimates from Parent and Sub-tasks as separate entities. It is possible to have the Estimates from the Sub-tasks calculated in the Parent Task, but this can only be done if the Original Estimate is set in the Sub-tasks, which will be added into the Parent Task.
Suggested Solution
Allow Estimates from Parent Task to be calculated against the Logged Work in Sub-tasks without setting the Original Estimate in the Sub-tasks. This would allow users to easily track the Work logs using Parent Task's Original Estimate and count it against the Sub-tasks' Logged Work.
Workaround
Create the Parent Task without any Estimates. Then in each Sub-tasks, allocate the Estimates. This would be calculated in the Parent Task as long as the 'Include sub-tasks' option is enabled.
