There should be a way to right-click a card on a Kanban board in any column and send it back to the Backlog (whatever status is mapped there).

On Scrum boards there is the option to remove items from Sprints and therefore send them back to the Backlog, but there is nothing analogous for Kanban boards / Backlogs.
