Historically Jira supported wildcarded group names in group filters for groups to sync for synched ldap directories but not for delegated ldap directories.

Further detail: With Delegated we can specify what groups get imported into the local directory when the user logs in by means of the group filter. But wildcards don't get respected for that filter, with the delegated directories, names have to be fully enumerated.

With Connector LDAP, Synced the group filter can contain wildcard and we use that feature today. But we want to switch to delegated and lack of wildcards there is a showstopper for the customer.

The docs never really reflected the problem that LDAP connector (Synched type) supported wildcards and Delegated didn't.
