Description
Summary
Upgrading Jira from 7.X to 8.4.2 causes tables and columns to not be created.
Environment
Jira 7.12.3 | Windows Server | MySQL 5.6
Steps to Reproduce
- Upgrade Jira data from 7.12.3 to Jira 8.4.2 running an in place upgrade.
Expected Results
The upgrade concludes gracefully
Actual Results
All indexed entities fail to be displayed and Jira is unusable as a result.
The below exception is thrown in the atlassian-jira.log file:
com.atlassian.cache.CacheException: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: [GenericEntity.get] "archived" is not a field of Issue com.atlassian.cache.CacheException: java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: [GenericEntity.get] "archived" is not a field of Component
Workaround
Option 1) Step into 8.4.1 first then upgrade to 8.4.2
Option 2) So far, the issue has been reported to only occur while upgrading using the installer. On the other hand, upgrading manually is considered to be free of this bug and is the recommended way for 7.x - > 8.4.x/8.5.x path as detailed in https://confluence.atlassian.com/jirakb/upgrading-from-jira-7-x-to-jira-8-5-results-in-data-base-tables-and-columns-missing-978222133.html
