      Problem Definition

The often case, where users would have used JIRA Service Desk (JSD) in the instance but then decided to uninstall it. This will cause the JSD data to remain in the instance. At a later time, after the instance have been upgraded across major versions, the users may decide to use JSD again, without realizing they would run into some problems due to the old JSD data that needs to be upgraded according to the upgrade path (Problem described here).

      Suggested Solution

Have a tool that will check the JIRA instance for any JSD data, even if JSD is currently inactive/not installed in the instance. The tool should notify the users that there are some JSD data in the JIRA instance and should prompt them to either upgrade it or remove it. Perhaps the tool can also be bundled with the installers for upgrades or included as part of the upgrade pre-requisite in the documentation.
